Shipping to the Bahamas

The straw markets on Grand Bahama Island are a very popular area for tourists to go shopping for all of their souvenir items. Mrs. George Phenney, wife of the then Governor of the islands, started the straw work industry in The Islands of The Bahamas in the 1720s. Straw markets began to spring up around Freeport with the development of Tourism in the mid 1960s, and the vendors have become a major contributor to the industry. While tourists from all over the world shop the bustling straw markets, Bahamians head to Florida on Discovery Sun to shop. Discovery Cruise Line also does a lot of shipping to the Bahamas for residents that have made larger purchases. For those that opted for Bahamas online shopping, Discovery Cruise Line also takes care of the shipping.

National Parks

When you take a cruise to Grand Bahama with Discovery Cruise Line there are two national parks that I recommend you visit during your stay. Excursions to both national parks are available at the shore excursion desk onboard Discovery Sun.

Peterson Cay, which is 7 miles due east of Freeport, is a small islet with an unspoiled reef and a small sand beach.

The Lucayan National Park is 20 miles east of Freeport and features a wide variety of mini eco-systems complemented by with hammocks, caves, blue holes, a footbridge over a natural creek, a small cay and one of the best beaches on the island. The Bahamas National Trust maintains the parks.
